Online Education
Raebird Creations offers online distance education using Skype or Facebook video chat. One-on-one live lessons are accompanied by handouts shared via email or Google Docs. Wherever you are in the world, we can connect and share our passion for art-making! Lessons are $25/30-minutes. Single lessons will introduce a medium and practice foundational skills. Sets of 3 or more lessons are used to design, complete, and reflect on art projects.
Online lessons include drawing and painting mediums, as well as creative writing. We'll work together to choose a medium and project that fits your interests! Lessons are open to children, youth, and adults.

Make a Bracelet (one day)

Parents and children welcome!

Make new friends while creating your own memory wire bracelets! A colorful array of beads will be provided as well as easy-to-follow instruction. Bring a friend or family member and make bracelets for each other, or make one for yourself. Each participant can make 1-2 bracelets. Materials provided. Register by email.
Water-soluble Ink Pen (one day)

Saturday June 30, 4-7pm, $40, all materials provided
Water-soluble ink pens are versatile and easy to carry afield! In this class, we’ll learn to use the paint-like potential that is latent in Pilot ink pens, returning after our sketches dry to add details in white charcoal. Natural found objects such as plant parts, bones, and feathers will be our subjects. Click to register.

Noticing: Strengthening Perception Through Writing and Art

July 14, 9:30 AM-12:30PM, $45, all materials provided
In this 3-hour workshop co-facilitated by Saraiya Kanning (artist) and Abigail Dockter (non-fiction writer), we'll learn skills for viewing the world in fresh ways. An integrated creative writing and visual arts project will allow us to approach our subjects anew. This class is for all levels and requires no prior experience. Come curious and ready to embark on a multi-media artistic journey! Register by email.
Drawing the Landscape from Mt. Lemmon (outdoors, one day)

Beat the desert heat! This plein air workshop will take place in the pine forests atop Mt. Lemmon, where you can enjoy the cool mountain air and take in the sweeping vistas. We’ll use graphite, charcoal, and/or water-soluble ink pens to sketch the landscape. Coronado National Forest pass required per car. Carpooling is an option! Click to register.

Color Meditations (Beginning Silk Painting)
with the Tucson Jewish Community Center
Sundays, September 16 and 23, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, $105 ($95 for members), all materials provided
Add a splash of color to your summer with this playful silk painting course! In this class, we will use vinegar-based dyes to create expressive 4×4 inch silk paintings mounted on canvas. We will experiment with color combinations and use salt to create comet-burst effects. This class is suitable for any level of artistic ability. Paint a Silk Scarf
with the Tucson Jewish Community Center
Sundays, November 4, 11, and 18, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, $115 ($105 for members), all materials provided
Paint your own silk scarf using vibrant, flowing dyes! We will use water-soluble resist to draw lines that fence in color and salt to create comet-like patterns. Returning participants will learn to make colored resist lines and achieve higher levels of detail. All levels welcome. You need not consider yourself an “artist.” Participants will have the option to make abstract or representational images on their scarf. Material fee is $20 and due on first day of class.
